I create (mostly) improvised dance/theatre work that explores the borders between comedy and tragedy as well as the territory between "low brow entertainment" and "high art." My work has been presented at dance and theater venues in New York including: Joe’s Pub, Dixon Place, HERE, the 92nd Street Y and The Tank. I am deeply committed to making collaborative work and am the co-creator of two dance/improv duos The Raving Jaynes: Improvised Dance Theatre, with Jamie Graham as well as Tangled with Andrey Ramírez. The Raving Jaynes perform regularly in New York and have been presented at over 35 festivals across 7 countries and 10 states including IMPRO Amsterdam; Improv Fest Ireland, La 2da Muestra Nacional de Improvisación Teatral/ImproTop and The Out of Bounds Comedy Festival. Tangled, though less than one year old, has been presented at Improv Fest Ireland as well as the XII Festival Internacional de Impro Costa Rica. I recently dove back into set work, under the direction of Deanna Fleysher, to develop my solo show How to Create Massive Change and Definitely Solve the World's Problems: An Introductory Course!
I am currently a professor and the Director of the Dance Program at Lehman College. In my teaching, I combines my knowledge of dance with my knowledge of improv. I am fascinated by the ways the body and imagination work together to create states of flow and how embodied practice can help harness the energy of fear and turn it into joy. I have published articles on improvisation and pedagogy in the Journal of Dance Education and the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The work of the Raving Jaynes has been featured in Status magazine. “never predictable and always interesting, Larimer finds comedy from nowhere like no one else” (Quinn Batson, Offoffoff). |
